The Food Hub Project team is seeking information on potential buildings for a hub in Kane County
Kane County is seeking to identify potential buildings to house a food hub, currently anticipated to be in operation within the next few years. The Food Hub Project team will be releasing a Request for Information to help generate a list of potential facilities within Kane County where the hub could eventually be located. The list of potential buildings will be made available to assist candidates seeking to own and/or operate the food hub.
A food hub is an entity that aggregates and distributes food products from small to mid-sized farms to satisfy local wholesale demand. The release of the RFI follows the completion of a Food Hub Feasibility Study, which assessed the market potential and operating structure of a food hub enterprise in Kane County.
The Site Search RFI document includes additional background information along with a brief set of questions to correspond with any potential buildings that you feel would be appropriate to submit to the site list. Interested respondents might include economic development officials, commercial real estate managers, and others with knowledge of commercial facilities in Kane County that could fulfill the needs of a food hub operation.

 ExporTech Boosts Manufacturers Looking to Export
Participants see an average of $770,000 in new export sales
Up to eight Kane County manufacturing businesses will be offered a rare opportunity to take part in a government-subsidized program that, on average, generates $770,000 in new export sales for each participating company. Metro Chicago Exports is partnering with Kane County government to introduce the ExporTech program, an innovative, customized workshop that provides an individual coach for each company, leading to an export plan in nine weeks.
Kane County manufacturers will receive a reduced rate compared to other ExporTechTM cohorts. The standard cost is $5,000 per company; Kane County businesses will pay $3,000 for the 2017 "winter cohort," which is scheduled to take place during single days in April, May and June.
Kane County companies that would benefit most from ExporTechTM are:
- Manufacturers that have received inquiries about exporting, but do not include it in their business plan.
- Companies looking to create a holistic, strategic plan for exporting.
- Manufacturers who want to export and are unsure of where to begin.
- Experienced exporting manufacturers looking to target new markets.
- Businesses that are looking for personalized exporting assistance.
- Manufacturers looking for resources and technical assistance for exports.

Workshop to introduce participants to the building

This workshop will introduce participants to the energy modeling process in the form of a game, where "integrated" cohorts of designers, code officials, modelers and building owners are exposed to competitive rounds selecting energy efficiency measures (EEMs) for a prototype building.

Culture of Health Leaders Program
Leadership development program for professionals seeking to advance health equity in their communities
Launched by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Culture of Health Leaders initiative offers a leadership development opportunity for people working in every field and profession who want to use their influence to advance health and equity. Through this program, leaders will be prepared to collaborate and provide transformative leadership to address health-related inequities in their communities. Past participants in the program have represented fields as diverse as architecture, education, urban farming, the arts and many others.
The three-year program enables leaders to continue working in their home communities as they enhance their skills and apply new learnings to local challenges in real time. Over the course of the program, leaders will:
- Receive an annual stipend of $20,000 per person-which can be used to cover salary, living expenses and more-for three consecutive years.
- Develop high-level leadership skills through professional coaching, networking, and an advanced leadership curriculum.
- Receive high-touch executive coaching from national leaders in areas such as futures and change management, health equity, and social innovation.
- Initiate a bold Culture of Health project in the third year of the program.
Applications are now being accepted through February, 15, 2017.
